Publication Ethics

To ensure that scientific publications maintain the highest standards of quality and integrity, and to uphold public trust in scientific discoveries, JOSRAR has established comprehensive ethics guidelines. All authors must adhere to these standards when submitting manuscripts.

Falsification and Fabrication of Data

Data Fabrication occurs when a researcher conducts no actual study but instead invents or fakes data. Data Falsification occurs when a researcher has conducted research but subsequently alters or modifies the data. Both practices constitute serious misconduct.

Consequences: Manuscripts discovered to contain fabricated or falsified data, including manipulation of images or figures, will be immediately rejected. If already published, the article will be retracted. Authors may face sanctions including exclusion from future submissions and prohibition from serving as reviewers or editors.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism involves using the work, ideas, or words of other scientists without proper attribution. This includes copying even a single word, phrase, or sentence from published or unpublished sources without appropriate citation. Plagiarism is dishonest and violates intellectual property rights.

Consequences: Manuscripts identified as containing plagiarized content will be rejected. Previously published articles found to contain plagiarism will be retracted or corrected as appropriate.

Multiple Simultaneous Submissions

Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is unacceptable and constitutes a serious breach of publishing ethics. This practice wastes reviewers' and editors' time and damages the credibility of both authors and journals.

Consequences: Authors discovered to have submitted manuscripts to multiple journals concurrently will face severe sanctions, including rejection of the manuscript and prohibition from submitting to JOSRAR for 2 years.

Redundant Publication

Publishing multiple similar papers based on the same research data or findings without substantial new contribution is considered redundant publication. Authors are expected to combine related findings into comprehensive, complete research papers rather than fragmenting results across multiple submissions.

Consequences: Redundant publications in JOSRAR will result in rejection and may lead to sanctions against the author(s).

Incorrect Authorship Or Author Attribution

All listed authors must have made significant, demonstrable scientific contributions to the research and must approve the manuscript for submission. It is essential to include all individuals who made meaningful contributions, including students and laboratory technicians. Conversely, "gift authorship" (adding contributors who did not participate meaningfully in the research) is unethical and prohibited.

Consequences: Authors found to have misrepresented authorship may face rejection of their manuscript, notification to their institution, and potential sanctions including prohibition from future submissions.

Citation Manipulation

Authors must not manipulate citations to artificially inflate the number of citations to their own works or to articles published in specific journals. Editors and reviewers must not request that authors add citations to increase citation counts for the editors' work, related authors, or affiliated journals.

Consequences: Identified citation manipulation will result in manuscript rejection and potential sanctions against authors.

Editor And Reviewer Responsibilities

When editors and reviewers have a recent publication or current submission related to a manuscript, or share any relationship with authors, they should decline involvement with such submissions. Editors and reviewers must disclose any prior discussion about the manuscript with authors.

SANCTIONS FOR ETHICS VIOLATIONS

JOSRAR may impose the following sanctions for violations of publication ethics guidelines:

  • Rejection of the manuscript and all other manuscripts submitted by the author(s)
  • Submission Ban: Authors will be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to JOSRAR for 2 years following a violation
  • Editorial Restrictions: Prohibition to serve as an editor or reviewer for the journal
  • Additional Sanctions: For serious ethical violations, JOSRAR reserves the right to impose additional penalties as deemed appropriate

In cases of severe misconduct, JOSRAR may publicly announce the violation and notify the author's institution.

Investigation Procedure

Suspected breaches of JOSRAR's publication ethics policies—whether detected before or after publication—must be reported immediately to: JOSRAR Editorial Office

Investigations will be conducted in accordance with established protocols to ensure fairness and confidentiality to all parties involved.

Corrections and Retractions

When errors are discovered in published articles, JOSRAR will:

1.     Assess the Error: The Editorial Board will examine the issue and consult with editors and the author's institution to determine the nature and severity of the error.

2.     Minor Corrections: Authors may submit corrections for minor errors. These will be published as an Erratum accompanying the original article.

3.     Significant Errors: For substantial errors that do not affect the validity of conclusions, JOSRAR will publish a correction that clarifies the issue.

4.     Misconduct-Related Retractions: If evidence of misconduct is discovered, JOSRAR will retract the article in accordance with international guidelines, including the COPE Retraction Guidelines.

Retraction Notice: Published retraction notices will remain linked to the original article and will be clearly marked as retracted in all databases.

Author Acknowledgment

All authors submitting manuscripts to JOSRAR must acknowledge that they have read and understood these publication ethics guidelines. By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to comply with all policies outlined herein and accept responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, and ethical soundness of their work.

Commitment to Integrity

JOSRAR is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics to protect scientific integrity, uphold public trust in research, and ensure proper attribution of intellectual contributions. We recognize that ethical publishing practices are essential to the advancement of science and the credibility of the scientific community.
